Le Mur
Antoine de Galbert collection
To mark its tenth birthday, La maison rouge exhibits in 2014 a sizeable portion of the work the ones that can be hung on a wall from the collection of its founder Antoine de Galbert. Presented in a random composition determined by the « Monte Carlo method » (an algorithm that calculates ideal distribution), over a thousand works by five hundred artists are spread over the available space of the foundation: in all, some 278 metres of wall. Paintings, photographs, drawings, neons and 3D pieces are mixed in a continuous flux irrespective of chronology, value, reputation, medium and format size. All the works get equal treatment, in a hanging that short-circuits the orders of both art history and the art market. The conception of this catalogue is just as unusual as the wall display, which it replicates in a foldout nearly 20 metres long.
