One cannot speak of Leroy without bearing in mind the indications he delivers in a skilful disorder, an order that rebels against any programme and that is only valid for him. Often provocative statements, not devoid of mischief, with a Rouault-like humility, where a deep emotion linked to the memory of people who were dear to him or to the urgency of what he cannot express is sometimes expressed in bursts. Leroy, when he renounces developments in which he sometimes loses himself so much that they arouse contradiction and revolt, knows how to see and make us see with intensity because he knows how to receive and give. Above all, he invites us, without contradicting them, to give a more precise meaning to the terms that come spontaneously to evoke his paintings, thickness, heaviness, accumulation – he prefers to speak to us of a “luminous breath”.
