Astrid de La Forest has developed a practice that blends painting and printmaking, structured around a multi-stage process ranging from on-site observation, recorded in sketchbooks she creates herself, to the production of large-format prints. This book is published to coincide with the exhibition ‘Et les oiseaux rêvent aussi’ (And Birds Dream Too), on display from 28 March to 1 November 2026 at the Domaine de Chaumont-sur-Loire (France).

It brings together a new series of works centred on bird figures and large-format pieces combining inks and carborundum engraving, depicting trees, birds and a natural world imbued with a gentle solemnity. Tracing sheets, inserted between the pages, reveal the artist’s preliminary sketches, whilst a series of portraits in his studio and views of the space itself showcase his working method.
