Made from makeshift materials, these ceremonial garments have been innovatively sewn, embroidered, woven or painted, far removed from the conventions of the art world, in a spirit of exuberance, irony and rebellion. They embody acts of resistance. Some artists have worn their creations, turning their own bodies into vehicles of expression through strange performances, whether public or solitary. For others, the figure glimpsed in their fantastical, intimate attire has been enough to evoke or summon a ghostly presence, an extension of their own being.

While some of these adornments and ornaments serve a reparative purpose or act as a protective covering, their significance extends far beyond this. They enable these marginal creators to push back the boundaries of reality and embark on a dreamlike, theatrical journey that fuels their existential quest.

This book includes a previously unpublished conversation, recorded in 2013, between Lucienne Peiry and Jean Starobinski, the critic and intellectual historian, on Art Brut and the significance of the body.

Seuil (with the support of Fondation Antoine de Galbert)
Text by Lucienne Peiry
French edition
Published in October 2026
28 x 20,7 cm
176 pages
ISBN: 2021536238

[55,54

post-7818","product","type-product","status-publish","product_cat-catalogues-supported","product_cat-new-in","first","instock","taxable","shipping-taxable","purchasable","product-type-simple
["GET
